Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that when I posted the link...I haven't heard the radio show, so I don't know how distorted the description is or isn't. But I will point out that Philly Weekly and City Paper both have no problem printing articles by celebrated local author Solomon Jones and others black writers that attack white people without criticism against the writers. The paper is one of those white guilt papers with a social agenda (I should say SOCIALIST, since they actively promote the resurgence of thel socialist party in Philly). And Philadelphia has a very real race problem, as seen with the Mumia Abu Jamal marches, the supposed gentrification of West Philly and the "white flight" to the burbs, the Cosby capers (local Penn professor Michael Eric Dyson went so far as to write a book called IS BILL COSBY RIGHT, or HAS THE BLACK MIDDLE CLASS LOST ITS MIND?). And in a city with a murder every day for this year, real racism has been trivialized by a real "class" act, Eagle's quarterback Donovan Mcnabb, who claimed that fellow crybaby Terrell Owens's verbal attacks on him was a case of "black on black crime." So to be fair, with the combined anti-tribalist capitalism agenda COMBINED with the Rand influence, Star doesn't have a chance of a fair representation in these papers. Star, I posted the link with some anticipation of a mixed reaction. Solo has a history with the topic of hate that you're probably not aware of, the cofounder of this site, Lindsay Perigo, has been known to let his mind be known in not-so-nice ways that could parallel "objective hate...", and has been both celebrated and condemned for it. I find you interesting because your radio "shtick" ( I have to ask, how much is real or a persona to fill in the Stern void? Ayn Rand supposedly brought some of the problem on herself by adapting a persona in public, Hollywood will do that to ya!...so I find it ironic that two Objectivists in the media also present themselves aggressively) represents in microcosm the divisions in Objectivism ("Hawkish" ARI vs. "Docile" TOC, "angry" Rand versus "reformed" Brandens, "sledgehammer" Perigo versus...well, that's a whole list! ). So the question that your show brings up is how much of your persona mirrors the attacks on Objectivism itself for being cold, hateful, authoritarian, etc.. It's a timely question for Objectivists in light of a recent little book called THE PASSION OF AYN RAND'S CRITICS that blows the lid off of the Branden biographies and claims that Rand was not the "bitch" made out to be. But your "objective hate", if based on her actual work, would seem to reinforce an image some Objectivists have been trying to combat in the public eye.
Personally, do you think Rand herself would appreciate the idea of Objective Hate? How do you reconcile it with the "But I don't think of you" side of Objectivism towards it's enemies? More importantly, how do you think that Objective hate effects Objectivism's emphasis on creativity over destruction?
At any rate, congrats on getting Rush on your show! (another divisive issue around here!). (Edited by Joe Maurone on 2/17, 1:26pm)
