"From California, to Montana, to Florida . . ."? I thought we were talking about a conference in the Southern Hemisphere, eg. New Zealand, this year.

Trouble is, Ashley ... if we had a NZ SOLOC in say, February, you'd need to *book for* February, not March. :-)

This is good.  A so-call "non-profit" can make profits.  It is only that they are not posted under Owner's Equity.  We call them "Retained Earnings."  The important result is that SOLO is establishing a business structure that will carry it forward.

I gave the announcement a Red Check.

Robert (“Wolf”) Davison? If he picks something related to evolution... is someone with a evolutionary background going to critique his work?

Well, thanks for your contribution Robert.

Dean,

LOL.  I don't think you need fear.  I only read the original material published on the site.

Julia,

Nice announcement.  I forgot to tell you that I have been through the Not for Profit exercise several times and know what a soporific challenge it can be.  The paperwork is relatively easy, but dealing with the IRS is not.  Congrats.

Julia, good on you, mate! [bonk!]

(Australian for: Oh my. Thank you so much for conveying such warm-hearted, value-seeking sentimentalities! Your present communication has truly lifted my spirits, and charged up my soul to seek the good -- that much more fervently!)

Indeed! Since that experience, everytime I book travel arrangements, I have a moment of panic just after I've approved the itinerary where I am certain that I got the dates wrong. And I still have an unused ticket to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, should I ever need to go there.

So, please don't confuse me by discussing the location too much, chances are I would book to the wrong city. Let's just say Vanuatu and I will get straight on it.

Does that mean, Ross, that if we have a SOLOC in NZ & Julia makes her way down from the U.S. for it, you'll deign to show up also?

Cripes! That would be two miracles. You & Ashley *both* managing to put in an appearance!!

Well, Linz, ya never know.

Seriously, SOLOCs should be where they'll get the most support. What about Vegas? :-)

Yes, Jody, Vegas is a great idea.

The conference could be used as a front for staging a bloodless coup & establishing the Rational State of Nevada; it already has low taxes and a kickass attitude plus lots of really neat showgirls 8-)

Vegas would be fantastic. It has the spirit of young, up-and-coming Sunbelt cities, plus great parties at all hours of the night, and nonstop displays of obscene wealth and splendor. (See the Bellagio's luxurious flower gardens for an excellent case-in-point.) And with legalized prostitution and gambling, and relatively low taxes, it's one of the most libertarian cities in the country.

Plus, I know a bartender at the IPA who can get me free drinks ...

Vegas is the greatest city in this country right now, it is probably the only place you can go with a couple hundred bucks in your pocket and have a job by the end of the week and an apartment the following week.  It has the highest home ownership ratio in the country (some 75% I believe) and some 96% of the people who live there are non native.  So, if people up and choose what city to live in, more go to vegas than any other city.  Talk about a city full of people who love it.  It is also the fastest growing city in this country.  It also houses major conferences of all different types all the time, great for someone with a wide variety of interests.  It also is a 24 hour city and has a great atmosphere.  It's 4 hours from the ocean at San Diego, an hour from lake mead, and a half hour from some great canyons.  It routinlely smashes relatively young building to build even bigger and better ones while it has no shortage of land whatsoever.  It is a beautfil and bustling metropolis built smack dab in the middle of a worthless desert.  A great testament to human ingenuity.

Prostitution actually is not legal in Vegas (that is, Clark County) but everywhere but Clark County it is.  With stipulations, the workers have to reside half the week in the place they work out of, that is why it is full of brothel houses.  Strange law.  Call girl prostitution is not legal, though I doubt much attention is paid to it.  Not that those who find sex as the ultimate expression of personal values should be bribing people to sleep with them anyway.

I'm not opposed to Vegas, per se, but people might be less likely to socialize with each other if they are gambling.
