Whose "life"?

Robert,

I assumed the poll meant the life of the individual, so I answered "To achieve the total height with the total passion", which I think it is for each each individual within their own context (although I was tempted to vote for the answering polls option ;-))

"To achieve the total height with the total passion"

We are not talking about the height of Mt. Everest right? :-) "Total height" is of course metaphoric. It needs to be more specific.

Maybe people are looking for 'purpose' rather than 'meaning'? For meaning, I'd choose the biological option, and use a definition like 'self-replication of macromolecules.'

In not-so-sense-of-life times I used to define life as 'a sexually transmitted disease with a 100% mortality rate.'

Besides, the meaning of life is whatever one choses to give to it, from a personal standpoint.........

And yes, am back - the pc crashed, and had to wait till now to get it redone....

Yes - figured that all hell broke loose when am not around.........

As for my times with Christina, she just left for german home at this time, and these past many days have been wonder and delight - after being alone for many years, found having a warm, friendly physical object with me in my bed something quite different.. finding such a stimulating mind to match mine, an utter delight and dream to reality... and actually got to get some rendering done as well [well, y'all didn't think we were going to stay in bed all the time, did ya?]..... she's a wonderful catalyst in thoughts, and had many illuminating times discussing things with her.... while she still is learning english, had almost no diffculty in understanding her - and this coming from a hard-of-hearing person........ next step now is figuring how to sell some works, so as to be able to go myself to germany and visit her and her daughter......... truly  a treasuring time was had....

[Emphases mine]

When I read this, I swear I felt a little unnerved that Robert actually had a response waiting below. Thankfully, it wasn't as full a report as I had imagined.

And welcome back to the forum Robert M. Seems you're packing more meaning to your life. Need tech support?

But not all life is sexually transmitted. Onions, for example, can multiply asexually. I'm sure I've seen a few bulbs sprouting in the forum lately.

Robert D: What is the meaning of meaning?

Meaning is the primary epistemological instrument for cognitive economy.

When someone says "the meaning of life" I always think of Monty Python.  Would anyone care for an after dinner mint?

This question is meaningless. It's like asking "What is the purpose of red?". Life can only have meaning to a being who can ponder the question. As Robert B says, "Whose life?".

This question is meaningless.
It hasn't stopped mankind from asking the question since pre-historic time. And not surprisingly, when the question is posed it is usually understood. The sense of the question is only put in doubt when it cannot be answered.

Hi Robert M,
What a delightful time you had! Please don't hesitate to share. Just ignore num++'s fragile nerve - he obviously needs to tough up. ;-)  However, he does provide pc tech support, right, num++?

Impossible! Reason unlocks all doors, else you're admitting a Kantian realm of reality which we are subject to but are unable to comprehend. If man's mind is fit for reality, this must not be.

This is all very disappointing. Does nobody know the answer to this vital question?
