Joe,

This is really exciting.  You may have noticed that I'm not very good at expressing myself online.  With that in mind, know that I'm feeling very inspired by this development.  In a hotel full of sleeping guests, I nearly cried out in delight while reading your article.  I believe in this new incarnation and in its mission.  I offer my support and best wishes.

Thank you,

Tenya

Hey, Joe

Good to see SOLOHq's excellent front-end has been retained and that the user accounts are intact!! :-)

Nice opening statement; it makes your intentions very clear. I especially like Tom Paine's quote at the end. Now *there* was an activist.

Joe,

It looks great!

"We benefit from knowing like-minded people."

I couldn't agree more. Finding SOLOHQ in the first place roused a spirit of optimism in me I haven't felt in many years. I look forward to nurturing that feeling even more on ROR. So, what do we call ourselves? ROR'ers? ROR'ists? Born again Objectivists? Rowland's ROR'ers?

Sorry about that. I better go to bed.

Congratulations!

It is great that the best aspects of solohq are retained. I'm not clear on the bounds of "activism," though. Is it within the bounds of this site to publish, for refinement through discussion, articles on philosophical topics - especially on metaphysics and epistemology? Philosophy of science and philosophy of law? History, the human sciences, applied ethics and aesthetics? Praxis in the achievement of a happy and virtuous life in our accidental universe? The grounding of praxis in individual experience?

What are the specific steps that you intend to take to prevent this site from suffering another descent into everything that required re-birth from the ashes of solohq? Working toward a shared purpose requires clarity on all of the above. I hope for more details soon.

With many thanks, and looking forward to a great future,

Adam Reed

Joe -- Congratulations on the rebirth of your efforts through the Rebirth of Reason. A commitment to reason as our tool for understanding the world and ourselves and guiding our lives so that we might flourish is the cornerstone of Objectivism and the only firm foundation for a free society. I look forward to your future efforts and opportunities to cooperate with you to bring about the renaissance -- or perhaps the first consistent birth -- of a society appropriate to humans in this world.

Congratulations Joe on the new website, and I wish you every success with the new organisation.

Seeing as the SoloHQ user accounts remain active, may I ask whether all the articles and posts submitted to SoloHQ will continue to be available here?

Best,
MH

Heh...the two sites remind me of when Superman was split into 2 beings: Superman Red and Superman Blue (this site is BLUE!). But Linz has the PASSION site, which would be Red, and Joe has the Reason site, which is Blue. It didn't last long in the comics, can't have an artificial dichotomy with our Supermen! So I am glad to see at least things are good enough that Linz is posting here. It's not the same, but we'll see how things go.

A suggestion: The name. It's great for a subtitle, but doesn't have catchiness or iconic power. Is there a word that would sum up the whole of the site? Anthem comes to mind, something like that. Just a quibble, though the name is the first impression.

I like Joe's suggestion. Here is my own modest (semi-serious) proposal for something a bit more "iconic." (Icomic?)

Just extend the name: Rebirth of Reason Klub. Then instead of Atlases, we could be awarded RORKs.  :-)

Joe, I have really appreciate yours and Linz's  professionality on how you have parted ways. I am sure this was the right decision  for both of you.
I, as  business man, have always loved competition.
This split is a plus for objectivism!
I wish you well, my friend!

Joe, one of the side effects of moving the site is the loss of some links and pictures within the old SOLOHQ site.

For instance -- the horror!  the horror! -- my flow chart diagrams no longer show on the various articles I wrote for the SOLO (now RoR) Florida page.

I cannot be the only person this affected.  So perhaps you and Jeff can "liberate" affected articles at the request of their authors so they can edit them and fix these internal links and pictures.

For future reference, is there a way to edit the hyperlinks in such a way that a root URL change will not affect the linked and displayed picture as long as the subdirectory and file names remain unchanged?

I don't see any reason to throw things away, other than if we run into a legal battle of some sort. What were you thinking should be removed?

Excellent work, Joe. I had wondered what would happen once solohq was shut down, but I'm glad to see that the old site hasn't died, but instead has shed its skin.

Dean,

I'm not suggesting anything be removed. It was just a general query as to what you the administrators are planning. I just thought that if RoR is to emphasise activism to a much greater degree than SoloHQ did, you MIGHT be planning to remove some of the less activism-oriented material.

(I have a small number of articles published on here, none of which are really focused on activism, so I'm taking an interest in their fate.)
