"I'd like to keep at least some of my hair until I reach the age of 30...'

Don't worry, Andrew. When you hit 30, you'll find that any hair lost on your head will be compensated for by the hair that starts to grow out your ears and nose...
Good times.

I submitted an article to SOLO last week.  I emailed it to the editor.  Does SOLO no longer have the "add content" option?  I couldn't find it.

I thought I would beat Linz to the punch on that one!

"If you have a few different thoughts floating around,...[don't try] to cram them into a sentence whose grammatical diagram would roughly resemble the floor plan of the Labyrinth" --- INDEED !

*I* know who yer talkin' 'bout, don't think I don't. What a contrivedly generalized way to supposedly, ostensibly, merely offer 'constructive' criticism.  What a sneakily generalized way to insult specifically and only me. What a public way to actually 'attack' me. I take notice of this. I take umbrage from this. I take from this...that most horrible thing to get from all of you 'standard-setting', aristocratic-wannabe, elitistic, insensitive, criticizing, sneering, fault-finding, smear-mongering, insulting, and incessantly, chronically-attacking anti-PC verbal-assaulters nowadays: OFFENSE !!!  Ie: -->I. don't. like. it. And, most especially, it's YOUR fault.

I hope I didn't miss anything in that description.

Sound pretty good? Like some others that have posted before? Except for one parenthesis, and...maybe...too many adjectives, I think it all diagrams out pretty good. Btw, they still do diagramming nowadays in English classes? I wouldn't have thought so. Too...'analytical' for today's education decision-makers methought.

MSK hinted (ok, he outright challenged) that I oughtta try an article (and somehow slip it by you; HA!) on a subject or two re my pet peeves. I'll give it a try (if I can just rearrange these 'ifs', compound sentences, subordinate clauses, parentheticals, [not to mention brackets], and general commatized 'side-thoughts' into separated but still connected, ergo coherent and cogent, 'simple' sentences --- and then there's my occasional broken syntax [undiscovered 'till after I post] and my love affair with your set of boxes for varied ways to ...emphasize).

     Oops. Did it again.

I'll get back to you on this.

LLAP, Andrew...And... may you obtain more articles before I show you a real editor's challenge.

I guess that NZers are on vacation today ... must be the day that man first discovered how to sodomize sheep, or something.

By the way, I realize the above joke has potential for gross cross-cultural misunderstanding. If someone made a crack like that about Dec. 7 I would sure as hell cringe. So, if my joke is of this nature, please accept my apologies in advance.

Neil, I haven't received your email. You can either try resending it to andrewrbissell@yahoo.com, or, on SOLO's main page, click on "Spirit," then "Contribute Content," then "Add Article." This will allow you to add the article to the queue yourself.

Andrew,

Yesterday was Labour Day, the day to celebrate legislation limiting ordinary working hours to 40 a week.  Linz wouldn't be a good grandson-of-a-communist if he failed to observe the no-work-on-Labour-Day rule.

I go into hospital tomorrow for surgery to reconstruct my eye socket after that footy injury.  It's not guaranteed that they'll operate tomorrow so I may have time to write up more of my US tour, if it's still wanted.

AB.

Besides, I was on my sister's farm. All those sheep.

There'll be no Daily Linz for Wednesday either. Once I'd tended the sheep, I gathered up some of my possessions that were being stored at the farm & brought them back to town. Now I'm sorting. (No, not the sheep from the goats.)

Andrew, good luck with the operation.  As for the final writings about the US tour, by all means write them!

The response has been great so far, thanks for all your submissions.

And Andrew, I hope the operation went well ... if anything, you'll have something to help your interviewers remember you! I'd love to run more of your travelogues if you find a moment to write them.

On a completely different subject...

Our server host is complaining about the number of email messages that are being sent out of SoloHQ. Since there are a number of people signed up to receive posts via email, and there's a lot of activity of the forums, we seem to have a problem. For the foreseeable future, we're no longer going to be able to provide this function.

We may be able to send them out in the form of "daily digests". Any thoughts?

Joe-
Tell people to get off their lazy asses and scroll through to see what's new.  It clearly tells you right at the top of the page that you have unread posts...it even quick links you to them.  I say don't even waste your time creating daily digests.

Joe, how many e-mails are sent out telling people they have won sanctions?

I've just disabled that feature on my account. Not that I win that many sanctions anyway but still, every little bit helps...
