Deleted the objectionable posts -- I'm willing to abide by community standards on what is considered inside the acceptable envelope for this site. If I missed any that should come down, please say so.

Mike Erickson -- I think a more accurate description is that I'm considerably more jaded when it comes to erotic images than some people here -- and that I'm used to a far raunchier crowd at Reason.com's Hit 'N Run.

Re this: You must have a very mild porn collection, Ed. Only Jim actually linked to porn, (he can delete the google link) and he may not have realized it, although it was pointed out to him.

I thought Ted was using humorous hyperbole when he first described the google links as porn -- my definition of porn includes this caveat "if you can find it on Google, it ain't really porn" -- but after taking another look I saw a few pics that could offend the easily shocked.

I think my list of favorites on xvideos.com would shock the hell out of Ed. But it is touching and heart-warming to see such innocence in this brassy, bold, uncouth modern age. ;)

Anyway, as the house libertine, let me offer an apology / mea culpa for any offense I caused.

And thanks to the couple of people who sanctioned the pics that I briefly put up. ;)

To lend a bit of perspective on the diversity of tastes and limits here:

The former chair of the Hawaii Libertarian Party is a cross-dressing "woman" -- and were not talking discreet, tasteful conservative clothing like the shemale wears who was recently elected to the statewide Board of Education, designed to not draw any undue attention. We're talking about some really flamboyant and colorful dresses.

Anyway, at a recent gathering at a monthly event sponsored by the sole Hawaii-based conservative / libertarian / free market think tank, she said something along these lines: "I have one group I attend where I feel like one of the few conservatives in a sea of liberals. At this meeting, I feel like one of the few liberals in a sea of conservatives. And when I'm at a Libertarian Party function, I feel like I'm the lone practical person in the room."

I wouldn't put an absolute precondition on whom I would date. I could imagine dating someone who might vote socialist. But I simply can't see that I would vote for someone who would actively argue in favor of socialism. I would date the woman on the right below if she were a serial killer.

Apparently, you guys didn't take me literally before (when I said that I wasn't a prude). I am not a saint. My beef wasn't with porn, per se, but with it being inappropriate in this venue (just like Steve's complaint said).

Remember what I said I would say if I ran this site: "Tone it down or take it to the Banter forum." Nowhere in that sentence is there any kind of an injunction against porn, per se.

Well, who hasn't she dated?

I prefer the Nordic/Slavic types, the broads to the waifs.

Lena Olin, for example:

Something about a woman who could take a five-iron to you.

Ted,

I wanted to make a joke about a driver (a one-wood), but I felt it inappropriate for a forum on objective philosophy like this.

I would have made a reply about how there is much to be said in favor of spending time with a dominatrix, but since we've established that this is a really family-friendly forum with extreme timidity in posting encouraged, I will refrain from going there -- or from even using the word "dominatrix". ;)

Yeah, just try a google image search on "dominique whip." You won't find Miss Francon.

Dominique Francon seems like a counterintuitive choice of names, since the first name conjures up images of a dominatrix, yet in the sex scene in The Fountainhead, she appears to take the opposite role.

Jim, contrary to your smart-ass remarks, I did not call for a family-friendly site. In my mind, restraining one's self from putting their explicit sexual preferences or locker-room observations on body parts, or humorous remarks that are unrelated to intellectual issues somewhere other than in the banter section should be the norm. That is no more "extreme timidity" than expecting someone to not to walk about in public without putting on their pants first.

In marketing, it's about branding - what kind of site do you want? One that deals with philosophical, ethical, political principles and their applications... or a place for people to come read your sexual likes and dislikes? It will become what we make it.

I can't help but to agree with Steve. I will say one more thing in this thread, though.

I finally voted. I would only date a socialist if she were the last woman on earth (or the only woman available to me). Of the available poll choices, I had to choose "other" and post this explanation. I would also only vote for a liberal if he were the last politician on earth (or the only one available as a public servant for me).

Rush Limbaugh says America has been "chick-ified" and that that is the reason that we have our current problems with overwhelming, liberal fascism. It's not that men have changed, but that women have become more political -- and men will often do and say what women want them to. I think I could agree with this, but would like to see data on it (rather than mere, vigorously-expressed, opinion).

Men are certainly less "manly" now than they were several decades ago. Harry Reid is a really good example of this.
