Bravo, Linz! It's wonderful to have you back, especially with all guns blazing - and not as the genteel pale imitation that your self-appointed makeover duo was demanding. As a response to your critics, this magnificent credo couldn't be bettered - but it's so much more than that. It's a blueprint for living. If the jellyfish among us would only heed your rallying cry: "Do not be afraid to fuel your emotions with profound convictions; do not be afraid to convey your convictions with intense emotion." Rand was the living embodiment of those words. When confronted with something objectionable, as you quote Charles Sures so memorably recalling, "She didn¡¯t simmer and stew; she came to an immediate boil." Confronted with some of the things that have made you lose your rag, how would she have reacted to these calls for civility and respectability? With a damned good "Krakatoa impersonation" of her own, I bet. She would have seen those much-touted "virtues" for the tools of appeasement that they are.

So, too, would Frederick Douglass - as you again remind us here: "Those who profess to favour freedom, & deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without ploughing up the ground. They want rain without thunder & lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters."

Well, I know what I want. We live in a world in which the only real proponents of "agitation" are our enemies. So to hell with genteelness - I'll take "the awful roars" of Perigo's waters any day over the mere ripples of a Brandbourne pond.

Linz, as long as you get to say whatever you want and not fear moderation, unlike the rest of us save one, then this is your house. Period. Might as well be a blog. This double standard drove away a lot of people. James Kilbourne shouldn't have done that stupid and uncalled for public alcoholism article and I still can't believe Barbara Branden sanctioned it, but she did. "Drooling Beast" has got to be the worst thing I have ever read on SOLO. I suspect that James just didn't know what the hell he was talking about and he certainly didn't know how to talk about it. Shoulda been private. I have no idea why Barbara went off on that got-to-change-Linz tangent, but she did. My Father was an alcoholic. I couldn't change him. You really are the big victim here, but it is not James or Barbara that have damaged SOLO, it is the double standard. Might as well be a blog.

Linz,

You were missed. Several more trolls have settled in on SOLO in your absence, and I look forward to seeing them given Hell. Too many once-active Randian fora were made useless by trollcraft, and eventually disappeared. There are some very deserving recipients here now for your fury.

And you were missed for your thunderous exuberance too. Here's to more of you.

Great to see you back, Linz!

I really missed you - this site is a pale imitation without your fiery inspiring presence.

Linz,

You have my sincere apology for my being so quick to entertain James' accusation.

Regarding the hot-head: as Aristotle says, being angry at the right time, in the right way, with the right intensity, and at the right person is not easy. You are living proof! :-)

Welcome back, Linz.

Welcome home.

I never doubted that SOLO is your home.

I appreciate your opening it to us, for your own benefit first, and then for ours as a secondary consequence.

Many times when I google key words from Objectivist discourse, the hits bring me back to SOLO.  Congratulations.

Linz,

Kat and I both have missed your posts during this absence. It is wonderful to see you back and in true form.

I personally have been torn between two people I care about a great deal in this last episode. But I am not torn at all about the ideas involved.

I stand by Solo. It is a magnificent achievement and I am extremely proud to be a part of it.

I consider myself lucky to have a place where I can get really worked up (from extremely pissed off to ecstatically happy) and still discuss an exciting new philosophy based on reason with highly intelligent people.

I have a place to work out my own writing style based on a brutally honest examination of my own shortcomings and virtues from the perspective of the philosophy that has been a deep part of me for years in the desert of a predominantly Catholic culture (Brazil).

Also, for as much as I love Brazil, in the short time I have been posting on Solo, I have found many more friends and people I care about than any other place I have ever been.

The personality clashes that crop up from time to time seem so small by comparison, and hell, I scrap sometimes myself.

I still hope for a reconciliation and I intend to work in that direction, but meanwhile I have other - much more important - things to do. I am getting my affairs in order so that I can marry the wonderful woman I met on the forum you founded.

Michael

I guess you thought:

(ala' Thatcher) would have been too strong? ;-)

Don't let your light go out.

I second the post by Brant Gaede, other than the reference for 'double-standard' re one's own house. You, as any 'tent-creator'-still-monitor, or blog-maker, 'own' the house...until you relinquish such 'final say.' --- It's irrelvent that a house owner allows only themselves to smoke (or whatever) in their own house.

We tried to clean up a little before you got back. Stay out of the laundry room for a few days- there's something going on in there, we haven't found the source of the smell yet. .

I'm glad you're back, Linz, and I knew you'd make the correct decision. In fact, I have such a mountain of respect for what you did in withdrawing and ~really examining~ the issue from arm's length. I think you were correct from go, but the fact that that you were willing to step back and self-examine means that you are the finest type of leader, and the finest type of intellectual: an HONEST one. Very few men are capable of this because it is damaging to the ego and too easily leads to constant second-guesing of self, which ultimately and always leads to impotence. What a value you are, what a man!

Especially apt:

"Frederick Douglass:

Those who profess to favour freedom, & deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without ploughing up the ground. They want rain without thunder & lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters."

AND

Civility in the face of evil is no virtue; rage in the face of nihilism is no vice.

If you are going to CHANGE THE WORLD, you are gonna break some fucken eggs and upset some applecarts. Some may consider you rude merely for the ideas you hold and the passion you exhibit when you express them. They aren't ready for the revolution, and probably never would be.

Sorry to hear about the TV programme. Welcome back!

OK, passion, reason and all that, now let's get back to business--figuring out what's right and how to get it around. At least that's what I see to be my business here on SoloHQ, which has been very generous with making room for my musings.
