I was joking. I was a little scatterbrained long before I had Livy. But I totally agree with you about fatty acids. I take cod liver oil and drink raw cow's milk and eat grassfed meats to get tons of them. Have you heard of the nutritional research of Weston A. Price? www.westonaprice.org

Kelly, I hadn't heard of WA price before. I did a quick browse of the link and liked almost everything I saw!

This is off-topic for this thread, so I'll keep it short. This web-site is wrong to esteem cod liver oil--to the exclusion of alternatives. Almost all positive research on omega-3 fats points toward a 1.5g/day dose as a minimum threshold for identifiable benefit. As it happens, you can't get a great dose (1.5-3g) of omega-3 fats with cod liver oil, as the A & D dose gets too high (e.g. by the time you've hit the 1.5g-of-omega-3-mark--you're into the 1000s with vitamin D).

But A and D have always been eaten in very large doses by people with traditional diets (very healthy people). The lower levels that are recommended are because of overdosing on synthetics. But I agree that cod liver oil alone without grassfed meats probably wouldn't be enough to balance the ridiculous amounts of omega 6s that are hard to avoid in our modern diets.

Wonderful article! You have said what I have been thinking since the moment I read the SOLO credo! Awesome work.

I have to say that the journey I have been on with my personal philosophy has been a long one. It started out as a tiny, questioning spark inside of me, and when I found SOLO, it suddenly burst into something I could never have imagined. The people here really are incredible, and I am so happy to have been able to interact with you all. I wish I could put it as beautifully as Kelly... perhaps I will try and write it for myself eventually. But for right now, I will tell you that coming here is like coming home. It's the calm in the storm that is my day... when you argue with insane people so often, you need that. Thanks ya'll.

By the way, I live in GA too. I'd gladly participate/help out with any SOLO Georgia plans! As long as you don't mind highly giddy girls. I'm just that glad someone mentioned it!

No, I'm not postpartum or nursing--yet. One more week to go. I'm merely in the fog of impending motherhood and trying to deal with a newly tempermental almost-3-year-old. (Tempermental, as in, his temper is making me mental!) I'm also interested in the nutritional stuff--a topic that I'm really just beginning to learn about. So let's talk over at the other forum.

It's good to see more Atlantans here. I'm involved in GO (thanks for posting the Meetup link Luther, I think a couple people have found us that way), but if there is an additional Objectivist group in the area I'd be interested in checking that out too. Would this SOLO southeast be essentially a successor to Atlanta Objectivists?
