| | Nice snapshot of VOS! I thought about IOE, actually. Your pic inspired my next blog entry. (Give me the day to this.)
I only watched the first minute of hte Barr video. I can't take too much of her. I note that she was reading a script. Poor speakers do that. You know, I can read to myself faster than you can read to me, so unless you have some presence and depth, don't stand and deliver. When I talk, I engage the audience. I have a script to stay on point, but I don't read it word for word because you can read faster even if you move your lips... But I notice this about actors as activists. They are not really conversant. They need someone to write their lines. It always reminds of the scene in "Team America" where Alec Baldwin says, "Let's all read newspapers and then go on talk shows and repeat what we read as if it were our own ideas." True, enough, also, I confess that I need to rehearse and prepare. When I returned to school, I learned right away that I don't think fast on my feet. I'm a writer. I sleep on ideas. I live with that. So, I would not show up at a Tea Party Rally to debate the press.
A few months back, there was a video with a Reason-TV reporter hassling Matt Damon over public education. I gave the point to Matt Damon. The reporter wanted to know why teachers should have guaranteed jobs for life, if fear of unemployment works so well in the other sectors. And Damon replied only, "Do you think that I am an actor because I fear unemployment?" 'Nough said.
Anyway, back on point, when Barr said, "that goddamn Ayn Rand book" I thought of Atlas, of course, but then, I wondered, you know, just which book would upset her more, that or CUI? And then I thought of IOE... but VOS would probably take the cake.
