Way to go Andrew! Give the SOLO writers what for and make sure they don't slack off and get sloppy :-)!

Does this mean we now get a carpet sweeper if we get others to join up?

Good luck to you Andrew. I read your profile and I think you are a fine choice. This should be one of those win-win situations where everyone gains - you will learn a lot under Linz's guidance.

btw - Robert M, what the hell was that? Of all your cryptic messages, that was one that I didn't understand at all. Was that joke or sarcasm? (Could I suggest welcoming Andrew to his new position?)

Way to go Andrew! If you will it, dude, it is no dream. Theodore Hertzel, State of Israel.

You strike me as particularly down-to-earth and particularly intelligent. Two things the world, and SOLO, can use more of.

Good on ya.

Congratulations, Andrew. I've been away for a while, so I hope you'll be gentle with me if I submit something.

I had the delightful opportunity to meet Andrew during a recent talk I gave at the University of Montana. He arranged and publicized the whole thing, and I was impressed by his energy, intelligence and maturity. He's an excellent choice for this position, for sure, and let me add to the congratulations.

Best wishes, Andrew!

Don't frighten the poor kid off before he's even started.

Great stuff. Onya Andrew. I look forward to seeing a tsunami of high-quality, well-edited articles and many extended Linz-pieces.

Excellent.

Michael,

Robert was making a play on the "Bissell" name, which (so far) is only associated in the general public's mind with unpowered carpet sweepers and vacuum cleaners. It's a common joke involving my name, but one that doesn't show up often enough to become annoying. While I wish I was an heir to the Bissell vacuums fortune and could fulfill Robert's request, fate has dictated that I build my own empire.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations and kind wishes for success. And by the way, Linz, I've just updated my profile to reflect the fact that I am no longer an economics student (though I remain a student of economics, heheh). I finished that degree and will spend the next school year studying mathematics.

Time to get cracking on the queue!  8 )

-Andrew

Congrats, Andrew!

I guess I simply must fancy you, as you are now the big cheese editor... even if you do have smelly feet and like Beavis & Butthead.

Don't worry... I didn't tell anyone.

Matt! You're ALIVE! (seriously, good to see you again!)

Would write more, but I've got to go back to work.

Heh, I just hope that after a few weeks poring over these articles I won't be yelling, "Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one who pays attention to the rules any more?!"

No one slips Big Lebowski references past me. 8 )

I've cleaned out the queue of dross, leaving poor Andrew without a huge amount to choose from. Still, better to bare the cupboard than run with crap poetry, epileptics' nightmares, non-orginal articles & the like. So please, folks–welcome Andrew to his new post the best way you can: with an influx of articles. Cleanly, elegantly, grammatically presented, no morasses of different fonts, colours, hyperlinks, etc.. Submit now & chances are your article will appear within days! :-)

This is great news. Andrew, best of luck. I couldn't be more pleased and comforted to know that you are now at the helm, continuing one's assurance that pip-squeak PC prudery will never overcome SOLO.

For those who may not know, Andrew does have experience: he was a columnist for his college paper and that's great training for the rigors of editorship.

I'd like to second Linz's plea for content. Here are some things you can do in your articles to get them bumped up in the queue:

-Explicitly compliment me
-Obliquely compliment me (via references to "Objectivist math majors from Montana" and the like)
-Link to racy photographs of yourself (sorry, this one only works for SOLO's many beautiful women)
-Praise the sports of golf, bowling, baseball, and skiing, or condemn such heathen's pursuits as soccer, basketball, and football
-Offer me a bribe (Don't worry, I'll edit the offer out before the article goes up. If I'm paying attention.)
-Write something that I think will generate a 100-plus post thread and cause someone to leave SOLO

That just about covers it. Looking forward to your submissions!

Andrew—you mentioned that you'd like us to:

-Write something that I think will generate a 100-plus post thread and cause someone to leave SOLO

I seem to have a certain expertise in that regard.

My only concern is that after my previous efforts, there may be no hissy-fitters left.

Still, I guess there's only one way to find out ...

Hatches. Batten. Down.
