Even if their actions were commendable, which you couldn't say without an investigation, an investigation was necessary. It is just such an investigation that would ascertain the facts that Bill points out we need. The need for a criminal investigation, which I happen to think the video evidence warranted, is a separate matter.
To declare before the fact that no investigation whatsoever was warranted is to say that the police need not justify their actions.
There is only one wrong answer to this poll. It is not that the cops were to be commended. That could indeed be argued. It is to deny that an investigation was necessary. The subordination of force to lawful civilian control is the essence of a government of law. If the police are free to use potentially lethal force without having to justify their actions then as supporters of a government of limited powers we might as well all just pack up and go home, and hope that it is our own gang and our strongman who wins the next "election."
