I loved the alliteration and imagery in your poem, especailly "wishless well."  How clever, wished I'd said that.  Thanks for sharing it.  It's a gem!

I have a different take on this. I think he's spoofing a melodramatic existentialist point of view, saying, in the last line, that he doesn't buy into that fatalistic view of life.

yes - mostly because used to discuss these and many other of his poems over the years we were together and the decade after, when we corresponded often...
