Let people publish the cartoons without fear of being hurt or killed, then we'll "let it go".

Once again Matt Stone and Trey Parker are fighting the good fight, and standing up for what's right. They're "activists" in the best RoR sense, as far as I can tell. Matt and Trey are as heroic as anyone around. And this whole battle isn't easy for them because they lack the philosophic wherewithal to know what's truly right here, and how best to struggle and win this fight. Certainly they're very weak intellectually and don't near know the correct words to put their enemy to flight. All they really have to go on is a mediocre, hazy, American-style idea of the nature and value of free expression -- and of what might constitute religious freedom and Western-type individual rights. Matt and Trey, like virtually everybody today, have to rely on a lot of character, integrity, and guts. This isn't easy -- and they could eventually really pay the price for their virtue.

It was a really impressive episode. And I do find it tragic that Comedy Central lacked the fortitude to stand behind its strongest product.

David -

I find your words on here quite suprising; Are you actually a supporter of freedom? Do you consider self-censorship due to FEAR a restriction of freedom?

Do you ever look at any other ideologies and think "Hey... that's dangerous!", ideologies like socialism, religious fundamentalism, anarchism? I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on this because it just seems to me that you're just as bad as those people who don't think we have the right to publish these cartoons at all. Would you consider it our right to publish them or not?

Andy.

Apparently, Cartoon Network doesn't pay much attention to the show. Are they going to censor the "Super Best Friends" episode of South Park, which featured Mohammed?

Also, Mohammed is in the crowd scene during the credits of every episode since the show began. Are they just going to censor the whole show?

Is everyone here aware that Objectivism (Rand, nanely) got mentioned on South Park a while ago?

I thought that happened like 10 years ago or so but I missed that episode too!  I don't recall which character it was, but they had to read Atlas Shrugged for a school assignment, I think.  I heard it was quite funny. Other's thought it was a diss toward Rand.

I wouldn't surprize me if "the boys" made another episode involving Objectivism or Rand.

Officer Barbrady (the idiot town cop) was illiterate and he was forced to learn to read in order to solve a case (by the perp... he developed it as an elaborate scheme for this express purpose). To reward him for solving the case (mainly learning to read) he is given a copy of "Atlas Shrugged" as a reward. Barbrady is excited about starting such an impressive book.

The next day he is asked about how he feels about reading. I'm paraphrasing but:

"I read every single last page of that piece of crap. and because of that I'm never reading again"

Kind of hard not to take that negatively but they're libertarian and they take a kind of "Either everything is fair game or nothing is" attitude to taking on topics. I don't necessarily agree with it but it's how they work.

I'm not sure if they're really familiar with Objectivism, or just making fun of Atlas for being a long book one of them didn't like. The episode referred to her as 'Ann' Rand.

It was also on Futurama - Bender said something like all he can find is "old Ayn Rand novels" or something like that.

Plus, here from Sluggy Freelance:

I think it was more a length issue than anything. I still don't see how you can actually spin it. Still a huge fan and if criticising the length of the book is the worst they have to say I'm happy.

Landon, I remember this now.  It was so bad, he read every single last page of it. :)
