Is there a rationale for being straight? At what point in your development did you wake up and say, "Hey, I really like guys, they make me hot, but girls are hot too and I'm gonna go after them instead." The truth is, it doesn't work that way. You're attracted to what you're attracted to. So is everyone else. It just happens that some people find, when so many around them are starting to develop sexual feelings for the opposite sex, they are developing those same feelings for the same sex.
Now the issue Michael Stuart Kelly brings up is an interesting tangent but a red herring when you're talking about why some people are gay and some are straight.
And if you're asking why a special interest group for SOLO Homos, that's another post - and a question I think I've answered in my mission statement and my post 10 of this thread.
