Greetings.

I approve of this change and think that the elimination of unsactioning was a wise decision. Even impolite posters can be addressed in some other manner.

I approve. I have never been unsanctioned, and had lived in terror of my first downtick. (Neither of those facts is much to my credit, I realize!)

But every forum needs a means of dealing with disrupters and I hope there will be some method of control.

Yes, it's all very confusing.

In America, after a meal in a restaurant, if you ask for a "check" they bring you a "bill," which you can pay by "check." If you forget the "tip" the waiter will be "ticked."

That should explain it.

I can remember having a work phone conversation with a Canadian once, where we both had the same application up on our computers. The forms (or screens) of this application had a green "tick" which had the same function as "OK" or "Enter".
So he talked me thru a form, I entered the data and then he told me to "check" - to which I replied "everything looks good".
"So what do you see now"?
"Just what I keyed in"
"that's strange - did you check it"?
"Yep - all looks good"

Anyway - after about 5 minutes of this I finally figured it out.....

Given Mr. Stolyarov's past record on unsanctioning, am I the only person who found his response above rather amusing?

Ihr tickt wohl alle nicht mehr richtig - den Check Point Charly haben wir doch längst abgeschafft! Bringt mal Euren Ticker auf Vordermann!
Inglisch (literal): You're not ticking right in your minds - we got rid of Check Point Charly a long time ago! Get your ticker (heart-replacement) up to date (to your predecessor)!
There's a great book series here in Germany called 'English for Runaways' - literal German translation: 'Englisch für Fortgeschrittene' (English for Advanced students) - Fortgeschritten literally meaning 'stepped away' :-)

Nothing nefarious, Luther.  I thought it's time everyone knew the truth:  I like cheese.

By the by, I'd appreciate it if all the cheese-lovers sanctioned my cheese-loving...or be branded evaders of the fourth degree.  I'm waiting.

By the by the by, it's just Jeremy...or J....or Grandmaster J....J-Slice....J-diggity-dawg....or Dirk.

Why, why, why do the posts of comments on an article always begin with #0? Is that also New Zealandese?
