Hey, give them a break… They all must have been worried sick on account of Saddam. After all, who knows with whom justice may catch up next?  ;)

Into your jail cell Galileo! Enough with your herecies!

Quel damage! And I thought American schools were bad.

By the way, today -- Jan 8, 2007 -- is Stephen Hawking's 65th birthday!

When he got home alone with his wife, the correct answer was probably soon: "Moi!"

Ed,

I think ,as a former French student in high school, it is quel dommage, but I think damage would also apply :-).

If it's one thing I like about the French, it's their language and culture. Some year I need to take a trip to Paris to experience it first hand. One of the funniest stories I ever heard, however, was my high school history teacher describing how Charles De Gaulle jumped in front of the victory parade to liberate Paris. That's about the only thing a French leader did right during WW2 or since :-).

Well, in the Earth frame of reference the Sun orbits the Earth as well as the Moon.

But I doubt that is what took him half the show to ponder before he answered...

Jim -- Paris is a wonderful city in so many ways: the museums; buildings and architecture; music; restaurants, etc. Too bad the sound elements of philosophy that produced a great culture and many of the great fruits of civilization are quickly dissipating like the aromas of French pastry in a hurricane of collectivism and Islamo-fascism.

Oui, quel dommage. C'est tres triste.

My wife and I went to Paris, for the first time, in September.  Like Ed said: "the museums; buildings and architecture; music; restaurants".  They were great, especially the restaurants.  And most of the people were friendly and helpful, even though neither of us speaks French.

But, I wanted to see Foucault's pendulum.  It is in the Pantheon in Paris and was used by Foucault in 1851 to show that the earth rotates (with respect to what I won't speculate : ).  But, it wasn't meant to be.  When we went to see it, it had been taken down temporarily to make room for a "work of art" by Ernesto Neto entitled 'Leviathan Thot'  (see below).  MON DIEU!

Hong,
I edited my post by adding the word "temporarily".  It lasted about a month, I believe.
