"Men’s intellectual capacities have always been so unequal that to the thinkers the majority of their brothers have probably always seemed sub-human. And some men may still be, for all the evidence of their rationality, or lack of it."

[Harriman, ed., Journals of Ayn Rand.]

Yes Ciro, I did.  My ironic bitter sweet tendencies don't carry very well in print do they?

This is not nearly as funny, but I have had stacks of papers sitting on my desk for weeks that need to be signed by parents before children can receive speech therapy. I have been making phone calls to said parents for weeks, leaving messages, etc. They had all signed initial form letters asking *me* to call *them* to schedule a meeting.

Finally, I typed the following note and sent it home (highlighted in yellow) with another copy of the form:

"I have been trying to reach you by phone for several weeks and have been unsuccessful. I may not have accurate contact information for you. I have scheduled a meeting for XXX. If this time is not convenient for you, please CALL ME for another appointment. Please Respond!" Then I included three different phone numbers, my office address, and email address.

I got back EVERY SINGLE note, signed with a checkmark next to the box that said "This time is not convenient for me, please call me to schedule an appointment.

I went to a Catholic High School where many of the teachers were Christian Brothers. It was a given at this school that if the Brothers thought physical discipline was necessary they would use it. The most feared of these Brothers was Brother Patrick known by all the students as Black Pat. He was rumored to have been a Golden Gloves boxing champion.

Black Pat taught Physical Education. If any one student was late for gym class, everyone was required to do duck walks. Once he was so upset with us we had to duck walk around the block. No one dared to be late for his class.

If you had a written excuse to not participate in gym class, you would sit on the stage in the gym and do schoolwork or watch the class. One particular day, I had an abundance of schoolwork to catch up on so I asked my mother for an excuse note, figuring I could work during gym class. Just before the class was about to start I took out my mom's note and read, "Please excuse Robert from gym class today. He has spring fever."

Oh, my God! He has spring fever? SPRING FEVER? SPRING FEVER? SPRING FEVER? I'M A GOD DAMN DEAD MAN!

It was too late to change into gym clothes. What was I going to do? I put the note back into its envelope. Black Pat began collecting the notes. I gritted my teeth and handed him mine. I watched as he put them in his pocket. My death was delayed momentarily. During class at one point he walked into his office to the side of the gym. No, he wasn't in there long enough to read my note, was he? Class ended. Nothing was said. My sentence would come later that day. Or maybe tomorrow?

Funny thing is I never heard anymore about it. He either didn't read the note or maybe even got a chuckle out of it. I'll never know.

If you've ever seen the show Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray's mom on the show is my mom. I kid you not...spring fever, indeed... I thought I was gonna die.

Ciro,

That was some of the funniest stuff I have read in ages. I normally don't like the long lists of jokes that are the rule on the Internet. You get part of the way down and the jokes seem to run out of gas.

But this thing was so hilarious all the way through that I am still laughing.

Dayaamm!

I showed my wife this list.

     We laughed.

Then...we talked; brother, how we talked: about how to be careful with any later notes we send to school with  Jonnie or Joey re whateverproblems, and how we should have worded a couple past ones (hope THEY don't show up here.)

This is 'serious', people. We don't want to end up on this list.

Who'dathunk one could learn from 'jokes'?
