| | Sam, If by the time I die, I have achieved in the realm of music composition half of what you have already accomplished in the realm of sculpture, I will die a happy man. Thank you.
The Colonel (Michael Stuart Kelly) said: Regardless of what he wrote, this kept coming up - and there was no attempt at all to see where he was coming from. (Well, I jumped in, but I am only one.)
I retort in indignation: What kind of Colonel forgets his troops?! I've made many excellent posts and I demand somebody pay attention to me. I'm bloody brilliant!! See posts 82, 89, and 105.
Moving on...
I do understand where Newberry is coming from. Like his original post suggests, commitment to artistic vision is crucial. However,(as events on this forum have demonstrated) when you cut off the study of aesthetical integrity from the actual artworks, you force yourself to champion intrincism.
Studying artistic integrity is crucial, and I agree with everything that Newberry said in his initial post, but if you find yourself trying to defend Cage over Lanza in terms of commitment to vision, this should have been a red-flag to Newberry that he has made a misstep of a large nature. Vision does not apply to P.M.s who are committed to the defiance of aesthetic principles and the integrative nature of art.
