I would suggest that you get your credit card company to reverse all the charges.
Cancel the credit card and ask for a new one, and make 100% sure to put a block on directTV - otherwise they may charge the new one.  They did that to me.
Cancel the service immediately.
Sign up with Comcast or Verizon Vios if they are available.

While it gives me some strange pleasure to be a complete pain in DirecTV's ass right now, I think I'm probably going to take Kurt's advice. 

They're hopeless.

Teresa, I assume this case has been taken care of to your satisfaction.

For future reference, you can file a grievance with the FCC about any phone, TV, or internet provider. Such complaints may result in fines against the carrier, but not compensation to you, the consumer.

Any apparent fraudulent marketing practices can be reported to your state attourney general's office.

Spitzer held that position in NY, but no longer!
