Many do not distinguish between mercy and justice.

I truly believe the man got what he deserved. Anyone that can plan the murder of  people, including innocent children, deserves to die. I just wish they weren't so nice about it. Bring back the hang man damn it.
I have one question. Why are we giving these ignorant, miserable, dispicable, bastards the choice of how to die?

There are many cases where the death penalty has been correctly applied, and there are cases where it has not been correctly applied. The bar is quite high for capital punishment and your agruments are exactly the reason the bar is so high.

Well put, Tibor!

Adam Smith once said, "mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent".

When someone writes fantastic poetry or books in prison, he can be praised in that light, and that light alone. But, justice would have it that he atone for his crime- regardless of how saintly or evil he becomes. Though death is never a severe enough punishment for the murder of others, it is the closest justice can come to matching the punishment to the crime of murder.
