Jennifer - we are what we are. Parents can help or, unfortunately more often, real screw us up.
Some people are crushed by a bad youthful environment and others go through it without a scratch. Think of a family where one child is an angel and the other is a devil. Same upbringing. Different result. It happens all the time.

Jennifer,

What a delightful article about such a delightful woman from such a delightful authoress.

And reading it was... you guessed it, a delight!

(ahem... all that "delightful" stuff is kinda forced, but it`s all true...)

Jennifer,

Your mother sounds wonderful! But are you sure she isn't just siphoning off energy from those around her? (I know that's what my kids do to me.)

Thank you!

Kernon, with she and I, there is definitely a synergistic effect at work.  But her energy level outweighs mine most of the time, so I think it might be the other way around.  ;)

James, I've given some thought to your posts (and Shayne's), and wanted to be more clear about my meaning.

I am not giving full credit for my virtues to my mother, any more than I would give her full credit for my vices.  Since there are vast differences between me and some of my siblings, clearly I decided at a young age what to adopt and what not to.

In fact, I addressed something similar in an article called "Ethnic Pride: A Case of Mistaken Identity?", so I do understand your perspective and your meaning.

Thanks to both of you for keeping me on my toes.  :)

Jennifer, your mother's a doll and a half. What a pleasant article.

I still read everything Jennifer writes, and manage to find her on various networking sites.
Shes full of good humor, and delightful insights.  I just love her.
