Excellent speech, though personally I hope that Objectivism does one day come to appeal to everybody :-)

For an article written 8 years ago, Ron was remarkably prophetic - or rather, scientifically predictive as a scientific student of history. We are, indeed, in a repeating cycle of conflict and totalitarianism. The threat, by now, is less environmentalism and feminism than religious totalism, both Islamist and Christianist. But it is environmentalism - with its deprecation of "anthropocentric" technological science, and its atavistic celebrations of the primitive - and feminism - with its deprecation of male sexuality, and its prescriptive censorship, against expression of vigor and pleasure, as "pornography," "obscenity," "indecency," "verbal harassment" and "hate speech" - that laid the political infrastructure of retrogression, antihedonia and obscurantism on which Islamists and Christianists today are riding to power.

This was one of the first sane Objectivist pieces, coming from a voice other than Rand's, that I ever read. It remains prescient and powerful to this day, even if I don't agree with some of its logic, especially that "Objectivism cannot be accepted without, in its turn, accepting relativism."

Wow, great article, you put it very well.  I loved the chemistry analogy. Looking forward to more articles.

When it comes to understanding reality, reason isn't the most important thing -- it's the only thing.

I'm a striker. I lay low, produce very little that the looters can take, while working like mad to destroy them. I love to produce value that they cannot steal. I love to spend my resources in ways that do not benefit them.
