Bryan Larsen

I won't belabor Larsen's talent here, given the number of his works already on this site! But I had to post my other purchase. I will say that my favorite part of this painting (among many) is Dagny's hand on the blue-green rail. So much is contained there, and it clearly, beautifully says "mine." I also like the countryside behind, because it's no... (See the whole comment)

First HeatFirst Heat
Bryan Larsen

This painting obviously goes beyond "reference" to "a chapter out of" Atlas Shrugged. Maybe I'm wary of references because they're typically so worn out and pretentious. Well, Larsen unapologetically lifts a scene from Atlas, and *WOW*! I think it takes guts these days to venture beyond banal, bucholic landscapes to an industrial interior and be ab... Nymphs and SatyrNymphs and Satyr
William Bouguereau

One of my top five. A magnificent work by one of the greatest painters of all time. Bouguereau's mastery in rendering the human figure is second to none. Delightful contrasts abound as frolicsome nymphs drag a satyr down to the water: Effortless grace trumping futile resistance; luminous opposite dark complexion; feminine curves versu... Untitled MasterpieceUntitled Masterpiece
Congo Dungslin'ger

This dazzling painting, done by a forward-thinking, early post-modern artist of the 1950's who went simply by the name of Congo, is just one example of many purely stunning works of progressive artwork that undoubtedly inspired thousands of admirers and imitators.  Recently fetching over $26,000 (American) in a London auction, some of Congo's art w... This is a photograph of the sun setting behind the rim of Gusev crater - on Mars. Serene, beautiful and an incredible testimony to the mind of man.

There's just something about this man's paintings that just resonates with me. Many times I am alone, but not lonely. I could be in a group for a while and realize that I haven't spoken to anyone at all - that I'm observing them, not with them. Sometimes I'm 'awakened' from this reverie-like state with the question, "Why are you sad"? To which I'll...

Blood 2,000,000xBlood 2,000,000x
David S. Goodsell

Description of Image:This watercolor illustration shows a cross-section through the blood, with blood serum in the upper half and a red blood cell in the lower half. In the serum, look for Y-shaped antibodies, long thin fibrinogen molecules (in light red) and many small albumin proteins. The large UFO-shaped objects are low density lipoprotein and ... Alex Grey

In reviewing the artwork on this site, I was surprised not to see Alex Grey's work on here. Many may label it 'new age' or 'super natural' but after visiting his Temple of Sacred Mirrors in NYC, meeting him in person and hearing several talks he has given, I find his work utterly grounded in the greatness and potential of humankind. His work is a... (See the whole comment)

Wanderer Above the Sea of FogWanderer Above the Sea of Fog
Caspar David Friedrich

This is the one painting I have seen that most clearly and powerfully expresses the noble view of man, such as that in the works of Ayn Rand.  To best appreciate Friedrich's "Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog," I suggest you contemplate it while listening to Ludwig van's Glorious Ninth - the second or fourth movement, your choice.

Pencil Study of KimberlyPencil Study of Kimberly

"Between painting all the landscapes and interiors I am moving forward on two new works: Kimberly above and Lovers below. A great friend and collector recently visited me and mentioned that I rarely spoke of the content of my work; how the subject came about or how I feel about it. I thought I would write a little about that now." ... (See the whole comment)

Frank O'Connor

A painting by Frank O'Connor. When I saw this painting in the companion book to AYN RAND: A SENSE OF LIFE, I fell in love with it immediately. It is playful, and seems to me like an attempt at a benevolent answer to Salvidor Dali. With all the talk about the new book THE PASSION OF AYN RAND'S CRITICS, and how Rand would have felt about it, i...

40 New Works http://www.michaelnewberry.com/studioupdate/2005-02/ Recently I have finished a few long term projects and have painted many outdoor oil sketches. One of them, the image here, I couldn't resist by titling it: Postmodernism is Dead, Long Live Light. It amused me to do so.  Originally I was painting the dead uproote... (See the whole comment)
