I wanted to share with SOLO my love of the work of Alex Ross. Ross is known for his dramatic paintings of superheroes. He has been called the "Norman Rockwell of comics," though he is much more inspired by illustrator Andrew Loomis. While other artists have painted superheroes before, Ross has captured the essence of the humanity of the characters, while highlighting the sense of life that they stand for. Not just in his technique, which is outstanding in its use of light and depth, but in the stories that he plots for the graphic novels that he paints for. From the introduction to MYTHOLOGY: THE DC COMICS ART OF ALEX ROSS:
"Here is a myth: In America, if you work very hard, with enough determination and persistance, you can become anything you want. "Here is another myth: No matter how hard you work, no matter how hard you persist, you'll never become what you want. "At some point, each of us chooses which myth we believe.
The work of Alex Ross shows the outcome of the first.
