It might be said that Peter Keating (following his mother's teaching) saw architecture as a repetitive skill for which material incentives matter and material rewards measure outcome. For Howard Roark, architecture was a "candle problem," an exercise in creativity. That could be widened to the conflict in Atlas Shrugged as a consequence of the two opposing value systems of the heroes and the looters.
