"Very advanced techniques for mind control exist today in the US and in the world. [Such as the technique I am presently using to get you to pay 10% of your income to the church]"

Yea this guy obviously did not know the difference between the protagonists and the villains in Atlas Shrugged. I bet most of his discussion was not even written by him, he was just speaking things that some fool gave him hours before the speech, and he took no time to verify whether what he was about to say was valid.

Idiocy clearly knows no limits - and he actually had an audience sitting there sucking up each word - pass the Kool Aid, please. But it was educational, I learned that Wyoming is above Colorado.

Back Door to the New World Order by Barry Smith
Barry says New Zealand was chosen to be the first test case in the Elite;s move to perfect their New World Order. Barry Smith has been an international Bible prophecy speaker for over 20 years. Barry speaks about the coming World Monetary Crash, the Mark of the Beast, World Government, privatization and the Return of Jesus Christ. He exposes the evil behind groups such as the IMF, World Bank, Mont Pelerin Society, Freemasons, Adam Smith Institute, Business Round Table and other Think Tanks. He also shares with you how slowly, but surely, men inspired by Satan himself, began to manipulate the foundations of society to create their New World Order. It began in the secret societies of Europe and finally burst into bud in the tiny nation of New Zealand.

Ah yes, the all-purpose faith-based excuse! You know, the determinists have one (the big-bang made me do it) but we free-will-atheist-Objectivists are left out in the cold, having to take responsibility for all of our actions. I think it's about time we had an equivalent excuse of our very own to shift responsibility where it belongs - but nothing immediately pops to mind. "Ayn Rand made me do it"? I don't think so. Come on Ted, I'm counting on you to help out here and craft us up a universal crutch suitable for every occasion. Of course, everyone is welcome to contribute their ideas! :-)

I actually received a private message from Barry Smith in my YouTube mailbox:

Atlas shrugged

I really dont know what Atlas shrugged is trying to achieve. My main point in

presenting this video is based on an Expression of Freedom. We all attack what

another person has to say without realizing that Freedom means we also have a

right to think what we want. Americans at the moment are being railroaded into

believing that patriotism is Just about agreeing with the goverment.

Easydollars
Exactly.  That's why I am exposing you for the liar you are here, there, and everywhere.
You know, freedom of expression, and all that.  Making money through lies is, what's the word.... FRAUD!!!

Teresa, the guy is obviously ignorant. But do you think it's impossible that if he knew that it was the evil. characters in the book that he was quoting that he wouldn't chanve his tune? I am curious of your opinion. He is obviously moved by the strength of the message, even if he has gotten the motivation backward. Couldn't he change his message to - "Look, this is the kind of thing Rand has warned about?" Or do you think he's such a hack that the truth either doesn't matter, or scares him? He may be incapable of actually reading the book. But if he isn't, do you think he is incapable of understanding that it's in his interest to do so?

No, I don't think it would change his tune.  And I'm not so sure of his "ignorance" either.

He had a reason for choosing Atlas to promote his crap. It wasn't random choice. He could have used several daily publications. But no, he used Atlas Shrugged.  This was a deliberate misrepresentation, in my view.

I think he's an opportunist looking to make some "easy dollars" at the expense of honest principle.  Big mistake. Big.

He might just be a total wing-nut who thinks he has uncovered that the secrets of all conspiracies are revealed when you read Atlas Shrugged backwards - then the 'real' messages come out. Sometimes making money is nothing more than putting oneself out into the marketplace with some bravado, that combined with a fair number of those people P. T. Barnum was fond of.

During the Q & A of the 1979 Phil Donahue interview of Ayn Rand, a kook woman got up and complained that Atlas Shrugged was an encoded blueprint for a world takeover by the Illuminati. Rand brushed her comment aside saying she had no knowledge of such a thing.

The kook woman probably thought Rand was lying and that Rand didn't know the first thing about morality. It get's a little scary out on the edge.

About 1982, I was told the same thing by a rightwing populist I worked with.  He said that Rand had been simultaneously the mistress of Leonard Reed and Clarence Carson.  Atlas was their blueprint to destroy civilization so that they could take over the world.
The Illuminatus! Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid, The Golden Apple, Leviathan
I see both the Illuminati and the Erisians working within the libertarian and objectivist movements. You can find them here on RoR, as well, of course.  It is an old conflict, going back to Atlantis.

Principia Discordia, Or, How I Found Goddess and What I Did to Her When I Found Her: The Magnum Opiate of Malaclypse the Younger

I assure you that there is more important truth in the above two works than in Murray N. Rothbard's Economic History of the United States.

Is that an admission?

:-)

I thought about becoming a member of a secret society. I would be like a secret agent leading a double-life (like Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity). Only I wouldn't have amnesia ... I'd remember. Sounds cool on the surface. However, the 'Masons only let you in by voucher, apparently. Haven't checked into the Illuminati, yet -- and that's the first I've heard of the Erisians.

I've heard scary things about the Illuminati being part alien-reptilian -- feeding on humans. I've heard of wicked, barbarous orgies by that wacky crowd who call themselves: Skull & Cross-Bones (I think both Bush and Clinton are "members" of that group). Apparently, they have sex and then perform human sacrifices in some room somewhere. That's what I hear on the grapevine, at least.

If I had to pick who's part of a secret society here I'd say that it has to be ...

Ted -- 'cause he's the kind of fellow who could start a cult on a dime (and have dozens -- if not hundreds -- of followers)

Luke -- 'cause he's from NASA and he's relatively quiet -- and you have to watch the quiet ones (that means YOU, lurkers!)

Mike M. -- 'cause you are all into money and "numanaministics" (when people are "into" things that you can't spell or even pronounce, then it's a good bet that they are in a secret society)

Sam -- 'cause Sam's picture shows mountains in the background, and everybody knows that mountains are associated with cults, or, at least, with minute-men style compounds (Montana Mountain Men, etc)

Merlin -- what can I say? With a name like Merlin, who WOULDN'T suspect you of being a member of a secret society! My secret society name, by the way -- if I ever get in -- is Wolverine (as I kid, I really got a kick out of the Wolverine comic series, along with the Iron Man comic series)

:-)

Ed

p.s. Disclaimer: I wouldn't want to be part of a secret society that sacrifices humans. That's just wrong (as if that need be said aloud here).
