RoR... Return to Religion? Why the recent spate of Christian apologists, theological delving into the minutia of the lamb of God, the holy trinity, and Jesus son of God. Has this site changed? Did I come to the wrong site? Or, maybe we are witness to a 'coming out.' Perhaps someone is locating his core and finding himself to be the first Objectivist-Christian-atheist. If I let my imagination go I can see a little boy in the man who is drawn back into a child-like yearning for the mysteries of the church, the swinging incense burner, Latin chants, the robed priests, and voices raised in hymn echoing off of vaulted cathedral walls - feeling a homey richness in the ancient languages as they carry the mystical, the allegorical, the mysterious to us from a distant past.

Whatever it is, I hope it passes.

From "Mere Christianity", Chapter 1:

"These, then, are the two points I wanted to make. First, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way. They know the Law of Nature; they break it. These two facts are the foundation of all clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in."

Good points. C.S. Lewis has a nice personal style of writing, much like Tibor Machan.

Steve,

Do you think it's time for us to leave RoR? It's become almost uninhabitable.

Bill,

That's a sad thought, leaving RoR, but one I entertain more and more often. I feel like a stranger here at times... an unwelcome stranger and uncomfortable.

I would rather see the offender banished from RoR.

But that would require swift and decisive action from the RoR owner.

I wonder if a poll would make a difference?

I support banishing X from RoR.

* Yes
* No

Certainly those who consistently engage in this sort of wishful thinking, despite their arguments to the contrary, have no place on an Objectivist site -- even when they occasionally make well-reasoned, interesting, thought-provoking, informative, enlightening posts totally consonant with Objectivism.

The irrational, apologetic, altruistic "zingers" of those same posters -- who are really just intellectual bullies -- more than erase whatever value they might have added to this site via the aforementioned posts.

Bill and Steve, if you left RoR, where would you go?

Wherever it is, some others of us might find it appealing, too.

I drew my conclusions long ago, Robert, and hoped the boycotting strategy would work, but it did not.

Luke,

You wouldn't have to ban them; you could put them on moderation or restrict them to the dissent forum. In any case, this criticism of Rand's take on religion should already have been restricted to the Dissent Forum. When I posted my "Good? Friday" post, I had no idea someone here would take issue with it, but I should have realized that Ted and his infatuation with religion was waiting in the wings.

When I hear this mantra about "Objectivist true believers" being bandied about by intellectual lightweights whose understanding of the philosophy is rudimentary at best, I just roll my eyes. Yes, there are Objectivist true believers, but the critics on this forum are scarcely in a position to identify them.

Does someone here have a blog that he or she would like to make available to us?

If I had to pick another forum outside RoR, I would select the Objectivism Online (OO) forum. I have posted there occasionally. Supporters of ARI run it so expect the baggage that comes with that versus the baggage that comes with other affiliations. I like the layout better than that at SOLO Passion and the principals show a judicious intolerance of nonsense.

That said, I admit I have made more posts to SOLO Passion than OO because of the relations already built with the members of the former during the old SOLOHQ days.

There are plenty of forums out there already. There is no point in reinventing the wheel. The only question is who already manufactures the best wheel -- or how to repair the current wheel so it no longer spins out of balance.

I agree with Luke. If you want customized individual forums, go with livejournal or facebook. There is almost every imaginable Objectivist venue now, it's simply a matter of customizing your interaction to suit your own goals.

Facebook has the advantage of allowing users to connect with notables like Andrew Bernstein and getting their News Feeds directly.

Facebook also has numerous Objectivist pages and groups such as this one.

Well, then, do something about it! His participation here is a disgrace!

I will give this situation a few more weeks to clear mainly because I have an MBA project to finish that centers on the PROPEL(TM) club network. However, the level of pollution here that has mutated the RoR into the TKF -- Ted Keer Forum -- has grown intolerable. I can see exactly why Leonard Peikoff made the statements he did in "Fact and Value" decades ago. So I need to re-think my entire approach to forum participation, the advancement of Objectivism, and how I live my life and spend my time.

These may be my last weeks here. I feel a little sad, and have invested quite a bit here over the years, but that is life. I will bounce back.

Let the founder and creator of this website decide who brings value and who does not. My opinion is Ted is a indefatigable defender of objectivist values and an expert on the life and writings of Ayn Rand with few peers. Ted brings value to this website on a daily basis, gives references for any and every assertion, changes his mind when persuaded to do so by logical argument and contrary evidence is presented. My observation is the favor is rarely if ever returned. As far as insults, Ted takes far more than he gives. This attempt to drive him from RoR is an injustice to Ted and if successful will be the low point of RoR.

What say you Joe Rowlands?

Mike, if Ted gets driven from RoR, will you leave in protest?

Is that a promise?
