| | Years ago I was involved in the skepticism circles of Michael Shermer, James Randi, etc. The New England Skeptical society hosted a lecture and secured Paul Krugman as the lecturer. He was at the time the head of the economics department at Boston University. He was a phenomenal speaker, very intelligent, and supremely rational. He emphasized how in areas of wealth and investment we are least likely to be skeptical of claims and it is one of the areas where it is probably most important to be accurate and objective. I was left with a very strong positive impression of him and always was interested in hearing what he had to say when I happened to hear his name.
But now, he is despicable. I don't know what happened to him but he clearly does not believe in any of the things he said at that lecture. I can't help but think he pulled some kind of Stadler, giving up entirely his intellectual integrity, picking a economic standpoint, and making a career our of propagandizing.
Disgusting.
