Glenn Reynolds has been tracking SpaceShipOne and the X Prize closely in recent days. I'm delighted that the team behind SpaceShipOne has won the prize! Good timing for it, too. I've been in sort of a bitter mood lately.

This little quip that Reynolds made in his announcement really struck home for me. It's a reminder that if you want a robust economy, you've got to build it in your own way. A planned economy based on Two brand-new sports arenas! just won't cut it.

David, I have to agree. To hear that SpaceShipOne emerged victorious added a glimmer of hope to a weary soul. I actually got teary, proud to be able to recognize in concrete form what man's mind is able to do when it is unrestricted. Let's hope this is a glimpse of things to come.
