Ed, get Lillard's book Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius and read the section on parenting styles. She discusses four styles based on high or low warmth and high or low control:

1. Neglectful
2. Permissive
3. Authoritarian
4. Authoritative

Of these, only the last is high on both warmth and control. This is the method the author cites as most effective. It also comes closest to describing Montessori.

In Post 18, I posed this challenge:

Perhaps Jim can share with us a further elucidation of his views of the proper relationship between parent and child with respect to involuntary servitude.

I find something ironic about an anarchist who openly opposes external authority inflicting involuntary servitude upon defenseless people doing the same to his own flesh and blood.

Jim?

JIm would probably say the same thing an Objectivist would -- that children don't possess the same rights as adults, that they don't possess full autonomy until they mature and are emancipated.
