| | I am curious what fantasy and science fiction or what contemporary writing people think would make for a good high school curriculum?
I could see, for instance, integrating the Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings into a four marking period ninth grade curriculum with readings of Caedmon's Hymn, Beowulf, Chaucer and King Lear to give an exploration of the historical depth of the English language and literature.
I now also recall that we read The Once and Future King in highschool as well. I remember finding it a bit juvenile. It doesn't stand up very well against Tolkien, nor against The Mists of Avalon.
