Jovovich, Davis, Rossellini & others.

I am a huge fan of Hepburn. Her favorite two rolls of mine were in The African Queen (an absolutely flawless film) and The Lion in Winter. I began this poll as a counterpart to the actor poll. But most of the actresses I thought of were still living. They also almost all were models. I had included Milla Jovovich, Geena Davis and Isabella Rossellini. But Angela Bassett had been an intellectual, not a model. When I formulated the idea of "cast as Dagny" I had to omit the three above as unsuitable. A very young Geena Davis would make an excellent Cherryl Brooks.

and Angelina Jolie.

I was afraid that putting Jolie in the poll might skew the results.

Farrah Fawcett

Rand had considered Fawcett a good cast in the '70's.

Alida Valli comes closest to how I imagined Dagny would look when I read Atlas Shrugged -- a dark-haired femme fatale. Don't know how good an actress she was.

Can we have a poll with living actresses who are young enough to credibly play the part?

I think you meant when you read "Atlas Shrugged", right, Jim? :-)

(And I like Teresa's choice of Hepburn, too.)

I think Lana Turner is very Dagney-esque.

Of the choices given, I voted for Alida Valli

but I think Kim Novak is a facinating choice.

I also think Marilyn Monroe would be wonderful.

Of modern actresses, I would have to go with Anna Friel,

Charisma Carpenter,

or Sandra Bullock.

Well, there are

Clare Danes,

Cate Blanchett,

and Tea Leoni.

I am not sure what Dagny's biological age should be. If the novel covers a ten-year period, should she go from 30 to 40?

Kate Blanchett, easily, as an option.

But my heart belongs to Diane Keaton.

It is too easy to focus on Dagny as the driven business executive.  I always liked her wry, bitter humor.  "... men afraid to hold an unqualified opinion of the weather...  Well, what did the Unificator want? ....  If I give you a train to get within 100 miles of unification board....  Please, Jim, don't show that you're scared....  Come on, Eddie, let's see what a couple of impractical people can do...  If you are not the coward that I think you are, you will give me that ring..."

Ah, but Blanchett, she knows about rings...

Elizabeth Montgomery in the Twilight Zone's "Two"

Elizabeth Montgomery has always been a favorite of mine. I can't quite see "Samantha" as Dagny, but I found her absolutely hypnotic with dark hair in this Twilight Zone episode. I remember my sadness at her passing.

The Episode, in three parts:

Just think if Rand had written this. It would have one more like the kidnapping in Almodovar's "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down" but with her as the captor instead of him.

Please, doesn't anybody care about the children?

Whoops, wrong forum again. Lana Turner looks plausible, but I've never been able to get interested in any of her movies. Any suggestions as to what I should watch of hers?
