I voted "Yes" not because of the drooling but because of the volume of the drool. After a while, it starts to look like a spam fest. My posts about Franklin Covey look like a drop in the swimming pool of the Kat-MSK love fest.

I really hope they actually like each other when they meet face to face in Tennessee. Not every Internet romance blossoms.

I disassociated myself from the Objectivists I knew years ago because of their penchant for putting people down. I was rather hoping to see better at Solo. Come on!

Geez, I was wondering why I was getting tarred with this brush.

Alec let me use his computer on the last day of SOLOC4, and I forgot to log out after checking my SOLO messages. Alec has clearly posted this poll under my name. Whether Alec posted under my account by accident or on purpose I don't know. I suspect it's just part of the joke as far as he is concerned :-) Either way, I had nothing to do with the poll and had no idea Alec was going to post it.

(I haven't even been able to vote in it - I've only now understood why I got a message that "You have already voted on this one" when I tried to vote last night).

*However*, having (hopefully) cleared up that issue, I am going to say what I actually think. I actually agree with Andrew Bissell - the poll is clearly intended as mockery, which you put yourself at risk to when you overdo the PDA thing. The best reaction would be to throw the mockery straight back at Alec with some witty come-back, or if you think the humour is too juvenile for that then just say so.

But all this other stuff, "outright insult", "coward", "wrong in the moral sense", "sticking needles into lovebirds", "penchant for Objectivists to put people down", I mean sheesh! Lighten up for Galt's sake!

Back again at last.

It seems I have been dragged into this discussion recently.

I don't mind MSK and Kats lovey stuff as long as it does not pop up in the middle of serious discussions. Therefore I voted "other".

However, I think that their protestations of undying love for one another are way too pre-emptive as they have not yet even met one another. Of course overt humour is one thing, dishonesty is another. They have made it public and therefore I am discussing it publicly.

I hope that they are both big enough and ugly enough to know what they are doing :-)

I interpreted the poll differently.

Maybe the person who created the poll is not sickened by the amore displayed. Perhaps he is a true objectivist in that he doesn't believe romantic love should not exist only in the realm of ideas, but should also be expressed in the physical world.

In other words, he wants .JPGs and lots of them.

This entire thread is hilarious. The fact that such a pompous un-objectivist poll is on an objectivist forum is what makes it so ridiculous and funny. Context people. Alec you and I would get along, we have the exact same sense of humor. :P

MSK and defenders, I'd say imagine Alec was drunk at the time (and jealous!), keep doing what you're having fun at, and don't worry so much about what others think. :) And pass the wine!

I've just got back to NZ & am catching up with things I didn't pay attention to while in the States. I was aware that Alec had submitted this poll &, knowing that a good-humoured rebuke was all he really had in mind, approved its being posted. I was also aware that some folk were getting irritated at encountering the "purring" in places they were trying to be serious, & I think the purrers have taken that on board. Kat & Michael, be under no doubt that everyone here wishes you every happiness & that you'll purr on together for ever. I guess the only caveat is the old adage that there's a time & place for everything, even purring. :-) Now that everyone's had his/her fun, I'll get the poll taken down & hope there are no lingering hard feelings.
