I'm very pleased to see Terry Goodkind in this list. The philosophical truths embodied in the various heroic characters complements Rand nicely. Undoubtebly two of the greatest authors of our time. However, I think a better choice from Goodkind's works would have been his sixth book: Faith of the Fallen. By far my personal favorite of the series.

I agree with you, Username, which was why I included Goodkind in the poll. However, I suggested Wizard's First Rule instead of Faith of the Fallen because I read the novels in order and suspect that "The Sword of Truth" makes more sense (and is a richer read) when one starts at the beginning.

Is it just me, or are others unable to vote in many (but not all) of these SOLO polls? In many (but not all) of the polls, the results already appear on my screen before I have even voted.

Is this a bug? Or should I feel paranoid? :-)

And if it is just a bug, can it be fixed?

If someone has already voted from your computer or IP address, it remembers and doesn't allow you to revote. Sounds like someone is using your computer. Should you feel paranoid? Probably.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean I'm not being followed, right?

But in this case I'm NOT being followed - I can affirm my computer is NOT voting on its own, and no-one is doing it on the computer's behalf. I have also heard gossip that others computers react to the polls in a similar fashion.

Shomething shushpishus shomewhere - and I'd say it's a bug.

And all I wanted to do was add my vote for Hugo. Bugger! :-)

Peter, the way I wrote the poll software is that it disallows multiple votes from the same IP address. I noticed that you're posting from cache9.ihug.co.nz, which happens to be the third ip address to have voted in this poll. We get a lot of hits from various cache*.ihug.co.nz ip's, which seem to be the servers for a dialup service in NZ. I think there are multiple SoloHQ visitors who use that same service.

If your service assigns a random ip every time you dial up, then you should be able to vote when you log in another time.

As things now stand, this behavior is not a bug, but a feature. I decided to err on the side of security to try to keep people from "spamming" the poll. Sometime in the future I'm going to do a major update of SoloHQ in a way that will solve this problem and add lots of additional functionality.
