| | Yes, it tore me up just typing it up again! I wrote this in my angstier teen years, but still touched my "soul" even as I typed it up. Set your fears aside, it has absolutely nothing to do with death or dying!
1. The loneliness of being "different", or being told that what you are or believe is wrong. Think of the guarding barrack as a symbol of reason.
2. Straying from that loneliness by compromising ones values. It alludes to a companion coming along.
3. The lighthouse, consciousness, or "rock", still within sight, even though the protagonist has been led astray from his values. They are still visible and can be a guiding light for a safe return.
4. What life should be: walks with your soulmate, memories triggered by random scents in the air, nights filled with great cuisine, songs, fun; things to be held onto and cherished as histories (memories). Looking forward to, and loving life so much, that the histories are there, although not yet written.
5. The continuity of life. I just now realized that the "looking down onto cobblestones" line could be misread as a suicidal intention, rather it is an admiration of timelessness. This is a fairly ambigous piece, I guess that is why it is one of my favorites. It definitely contains many levels.
Lighhouse burns could be a mantra for "life is eternal, life is beautiful"
