Just out of curiosity, how many of you have friends who claim to adhere to a set of principles dissimilar to your own (religious for example) and yet you remain friends with them because, for all their talk about being religious, you seem them living as if they held Objectivist principles? Does anyone else find it frustrating that many Americans "say" they are one thing but "act" as if they are another? How do you approach and deal with friends such as these?

Thanks,
Brad

I understand what you are saying! There is this wonderful girl that I see almost everyday that is the perfect concretization of my ideal woman. She is beautiful, happy, intelligent, and creative, yet she is a Christian. If it wasn't for the fact that she is seeing someone else… She was really suprised to find out that I'm not a Christian. (That suprised me because I thought it was pretty self-evident that I don't believe in anything religious or supernatural.) She's the perfect Objectivist, who has no idea what Objectivism is!

I think only a few of my friends are objectivist or even know about it. The rest are fun, reasonable, hard working people (most of the time, no one is perfect). Most of them are even religious -- gasp! Just because someone is objectivist doesn't make them fun to be around. I think people that try to have only objectivist friends end up miserable a lot of the time, or at least miss out on a great deal.

I think a person would go mad trying to put together an objectivist-only circle of friends. I know I have. My experience has demonstrated that objectivists deserve a presumption of not being very cool/fun to hang around. It's a rebuttable presumption of course.
