Many of these shows are available as podcasts after they air. Follow the originating link title of this thread and bookmark the page. Also, other hosts such as YouTube and CPAC will also featuer podcasts. For example, you can see Steven Pinker's "The Stuff of Thought" on YouTube here but in separate episodes. (It is sponsored by some conspiracy theorists, but their blurb is very short.) BTW, I very highly recommend Pinker's talk. It's informative and extremely entertaining.

Ted,

There is a difference (to my understanding) between a podcast and being able to watch online. In order for it to be a podcast you need to be able to download it so that you can watch/hear it on your portable media player.

I have not been able to see how to download any of the Book TV shows. Perhaps you can explain to me how?

Rick, I think they (BookTV) have recently changed their format. I used to be able to download their videos (just to my hard drive) and haven't succeeded in doing this since the format change. They also seem to have made older videos harder to find, if they haven't simply removed them.

As for the term podcast, I'm not a device guy. I don't have a cellphone, iPod or anything more recent than a walkman. I picked up the term by osmosis, not conscious integration, and was simply using it to mean on-line video.

Use http://www.wmrecorder.com to download RealMedia streaming formats.

As for devices, most devices have conversion software.

I use http://www.winavi.com and http://www.kinoma.com as two of several possible means to this end for converting downloaded files to play on my Palm Treo 680.

None of your suggested options are useful to me since I don't\b\b\b\b\bwon't use MS.

Actually, I'm suspecting that they stupidly require MS since I see a reference to ActiveX in the page source.

Unless a site does some serious hiding/obfuscating of the URL I can usually d/l most all media files. The programs to do this are free and open source.
