I quite agree...... this is an excellent article for explaining that subject of disparity so oft invoked, and in a manner well understandable to almost anyone......

I concur.
This article was well-done, and I appreciated all of the footnotes at the end, too.
Thanks, Jeff.

If you are a computer geek, it's well worth it to read all of the essays Graham has on his website:

Essays

Some of my favorites for a more general audience are:

Taste for Makers

Why Nerds are Unpopular

What You Can't Say

How to Make Wealth

What You'll Wish You'd Known

Well, thanks, Ryan!

Just so happens, I happen to be geek in all manners of the word, including computer, so I will follow your recommendation.

Erica:

Your son would probably enjoy Why Nerds are Unpopular and What You'll Wish You'd Known. They are both great critiques of the public school system.

I just loved the closing paragraph ...

You need rich people in your society not so much because in spending their money they create jobs, but because of what they have to do to get rich. I'm not talking about the trickle-down effect here. I'm not saying that if you let Henry Ford get rich, he'll hire you as a waiter at his next party. I'm saying that he'll make you a tractor to replace your horse.
Not only does he concur with Henry Hazlitt's 3 things rich folks do with money ...

1) re-invest in their business -- which creates jobs (read: more wealth) for others
2) invest in others' business through stocks -- which creates jobs (read: more wealth) for others
3) live luxuriously, as with a yacht-crew, housemaids, chauffeur, tailor, etc -- which creates jobs (read: more wealth) for others

... but he specifically highlights the 4th way that the rich inadvertently "share" wealth - by making our very lives easier.

Bravo.

I was also impressed by his writing.  I liked a few of his other articles and may read some more.  Thanks for letting us know about it!
