In any way this is extremely profitable for the pharmaceutical industry.

When someone would have to buy on his own this kind of lifelong care, hardly anybody would do it. This alone shows it is a ridiculous idea.

"In any way this is extremely profitable for the pharmaceutical industry."

This is certainly false in the long term. It may be profitable in the short term to certain pharmaceuticals which will benefit due to their current market dominance, at the expense of certain other companies. In the long term, it will harm all. No industry has ever benefited in the long term from government support except institutionalized slavery (if that is an industry) and perhaps munitions dealers - which usually end up nationalized in any case, see what happened to Krupps during WWII.

Edwards is about as communist as they come.  He made his money on malpractice lawsuits, too!  I wish that when his wife was diagnosed with cancer, that the doctors would refuse to treat her.  Or, at the very least, perhaps the best ones could.  It would serve them right - Atlas as a doctor should start shrugging now.

Unfortunately, doctors are very bought into the entire altruist mythology.  Read the web page of any hospital or health organization.

My parents still live in North Carolina, the home state of John Edwards whence he launched his political career.

My dad calls him a "pretty boy ambulance chaser."

They'd have to put a knife to my throat before I'd comply. I'd walk down main street flaunting my weeping leprous sores, draining my bubonic pustules, slicing pieces of decaying flesh from my necrotizing fasciitis and coughing up blood from my tubercular lungs.

Edwards is an evil f**k in the vein of the Hillary-care for even proposing this tyrannical garbage.

"If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years."

Sounds a bit silly, since the wait could end up being 20 years.

Sam,

You were much too kind in trying to insulate us from the most horrifying part of Edwards' speech that day...the dozens of mindless people who cheered their bloodthirsty cheer for Edwards' ideas about universal healthcare.  I certainly don't care about some isolated incident where some guy spouts off about some inane idea such as "universal healthcare."  But I begin to tremble with fear when I know some influential figure is feeding the masses exactly what they want to hear ("free stuff for all!!!"), so as to win their confidence and votes.
