The fire official's observations lose some credibility when he refers to "... a current of 40,000 volts ..." More likely he meant "... a potential of 40,000 volts ...", a meaningful measurement that makes it an interesting story.

     True, if it were an electrician using the term. Pretty well all those people who do not work in electronics or as electricians use the terms 'volts,' 'amps,' 'voltage,' and 'current'  chronically, though falsely, interchangeably.

    Still, I used to give short-shrift to anecdotes and 'reports' of Spontaneous Combustion.
This news item looks interesting.
