Read the glowing reviews on Amazon:

"Although the First World War gets less attention than its successor, it was really the watershed event of the 20th century. This conflict shaped the world that came after to this day. It was the catalyst for the rise of soviet communism in Russia, whose unravelling less than a decade and a half ago continues to affect worldwide diplomacy and economics. Germany's defeat provided the opportunity for fascism and Hitler to come to power there, causing the Second World War and its greater destruction. The defeat of the Ottoman Empire during the First World War and the diplomatic and political morass that followed was the precursor for the reconstitution of Israel and eventually brought the Middle East into center stage today."

Lenin and the Kaiser

Many people are aware that Lenin had been exiled from Russia, and returned there during WWI. What most people don't know is that he was sent with the blessing and backing of the Kaiser's government, to destabilize The Czarist regime. Talk about "poetic justice!" The Kaiser's regime was in essence greater Prussia. Germany had been united under its hegemony. Today Prussia no longer exists, being part of modern-day Poland and Russia's Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) Oblast. The iron curtain, the Berlin Wall, all brought to you courtesy of German engineering.

It is interesting to note that the treaty of Versaille was only signed by private individuals and WW2 was the culmination of events. It is unfortunate that not all that many persons are aware of the issues covered in the Treaty. Apart from the war reparations and German and Axis response to terrorism of the day the treaty has many strong points. "Arrogance is a thirst for pity" HRB
