Yes the music, the dancing, and the acting are superb. However the plot is quite weak. The story has nothing to do with Gershwin's music, but his songs have just been sort of plopped into a loose storyline. However, although there are many charming and delightful moments in this musical - I found the plot quite disappointing.

'An American In Paris' is one of my favourite pieces, and one of my favourite films.

I agree with you Marcus - there is no great depth to the storyline, but the signing & dancing of Gene Kelly & Co contains the most amazing passion for life!

It balances out.
