Hey Marnee, thanks for your review here.  I have the DVD, and also a CD of the music from the film.  The film has long been an inspiration to dancers and cinematographers alike.

I also had the opportunity to see the Broadway production of The Red Shoes, which had its own interesting dance sequence (quite good, but nowhere near the film version).  It was a short-lived production, but it brought back a lot of interest in the film version.

Recently, AFI noted the top 100 songs in film; NY Daily News critic David Bianculli suggested that if the time ever came for the American Film Institute to note the top 100 dance sequences in film, The Red Shoes would surely rank high on that list.

Thanks again for your comments on SOLO HQ.

this film was made by michael powell and emeric pressberger, they were known as the archers. If you are unfamiliar with their output I  recommend you checkout a few more of their films, the themes are always interesting and unusual and they demonstrate sense of life values.
  • A Matter of Life and Death
  • Black Narcissus
  • A Canterbury Tale
  • Life and Times of Colonel Blimp
