I'm not quite sure what the punchline is here. The video shows a male skater in a fake muscle-suit doing a cheesy striptease to Tom Jones, for four very long minutes. I kept waiting for a rabid dog to run out on the ice, or the like. There must be something here to do with the Objectivist theory of Romantic Love, but whatever it is, I'm not sure.

I thought you liked guys, Ted.  Not your type?

How is it different from professional tennis for which some here back in the kiwi days touted as an achievement.

Anyway, I had no problem watching this and prefer women.

After watching the video, I think I know where the inspiration for Will Ferrell's character in Blades of Glory came from...

What Would Brian Boitano Do?

It's not necessarily either or, Mike. Having spent a few hours doing other things since I saw the video, it does make me chuckle to remember it. In any case, I have never cared for strip tease acts or their performers, except perhaps for this one.

And to what, exactly, do you prefer women? A strange thing to say when you think of it.

I'll wait until we have totally nude female Olympic figure skating before I'll comment. In the meantime, even though the audience apparently appreciated it, I wonder how many were offended. Personally, I wouldn't pay real money to see this.

Sam, you realize the skater was wearing skin-colored muscle-painted padded leotards? I would not want to watch nude ice skating of any sex, especially not after having seen someone have her tongue stuck to a frozen street sign-pole, and then having the flesh torn off as she removed it.

Absolutely not, just the opposite.

Watching it is okay. It's being a nude ice skater that I'd have trouble with. Brrr! I grew up in Minnesota and went skating when it was 20 below zero. Under those conditions, you can't expose ANY skin!

I don't mind strippers; it's stripping on ice that leaves me cold, especially if it's down outdoors.

Bill, there's an article in the recent New Scientist about an "empathy" region of the brain that responds as if one has been touched oneself when one views another being touched.

The mere thought of watching a nude ice-skater makes my skin crawl.

Ted,

Give Teresa a break. I mean dang, she posted the damn thing in the Jokes forum for gosh darn sakes! Not every joke can be about logic, reason, and rationality. But, for whatever viewing pleasure you may receive from such things, I have come up with 2 of them myself ...

I've never personally had a problem with the idea of sexual energy. I think it's cool. In fact, it's been my experience that when the rationality is pushed far, then sexual tension pulls on me stronger -- kinda' like a yin/yang, or something. And it's not just me, either. Take a look at Einstein, for example. I mean, the guy needed it so desperately that he couldn't hold-off long enough to meet a stranger -- so he married his own cousin instead! ... [duhduh dunn]

And what about Spock from Star Trek? I mean, that man was so horny that even his ears and eyebrows were erect! Did you ever notice how they never show a close-up of his crotch??? Hmmm ... makes one wonder, doesn't it?

;-)

Ed,

I just didn't see what was funny, after waiting four minutes for the guy's pants to split, or some animal to come running out on the ice. I was left wondering, where's the punchline? I certainly wasn't angry at her, although I think I've spent more minutes of my life on that video than it was worth.

I also did sanction her on post #6.

It's not like I'm some mean ogre, or woman-hating pansy, or mean-woman-hating pansy-ogre, for gosh sakes!

(You can quote me on that.)

And as for Spock, (how did he get into this thread? I thought you had disavowed your Vulcan ancestry!) I never did take a serious gander at the Vulcan's endowment. I figured that he probably had two, that they were likely green, and they were most likely in the wrong place. I always liked the shirtless Kirk kissing the vert short-skirted Uhura. I loved when she sang.

Einstein's first marriage to his own cousin wasn't such a strange thing for European Jewry, with the limited options for parentally approved in-group matches.

Alright Ted, you got me on Spock and Einstein. But I still got you on your criticism of Teresa's pick (because you admitted that you had thought about the video later -- and laughed).

The crux of humor is the unexpected. Like a chimpanzee smoking a cigarette and holding a beer, or an elephant wearing underpants. Ice skating has always been a sport of elegance and eloquent gracefulness, yet this guy was crass. That's the "punch-line" (the unexpected).

Wait a minute. This is not a game of gotcha. (At least on my behalf.) And my confession that I chuckled at nonsense after the fact was not elicited by you. Teresa knows I love her. Post six explained her motives sufficiently. I still would have enjoyed seeing him chased by an enraged chihuahua.

This kind of remark makes me look like either a child; or a bad-guy from a Batman movie (either Joker, or Riddler, or the Penguin perhaps). Other people have made this kind of remark to me, too (i.e., there's a pattern). Analysis of the pattern reveals that I'm relatively insensitive to other peoples' feelings when I'm seeking out the truth of a matter through a dialectic discussion with them (I'll have to look into that).

But it also reveals that I don't have the same sensitivities as others about being the one who was first right -- or who was the last one wrong. Some say: "Can't we just get along?" Of which I usually think: "But can't we be more authentic than is had from 'getting along to go along'?" Perhaps this conflict will never be resolved (and I'm okay with that). Perhaps there's a chip missing (or added) in one or both of our heads.

And my confession that I chuckled at nonsense after the fact was not elicited by you.
You see, now it seems like I'm prodding you -- when I mention that it doesn't matter whether it was I who "elicited" the truth of a matter, or whether it was you. When the important point is that the truth came out and the participants and viewers of the discussion -- wielding more truth than before -- can have more understanding and make more progress in their lives. It seems like I'm a troll; or an evil Vulcan, or something. I know, I know -- this is a serious hijack (but I'm perturbed, can't I be perturbed every once in a while?).

;-)

Don't use the "L" word on me. I ... I'm not going to bicker about these debate points anymore; at least not in this Joke thread.
still would have enjoyed seeing him chased by an enraged chihuahua.
hehe ... yeah ... That would have been hilarious to see (I'm not being sarcastic, either)!

I wish the same on you, Ted.
