I've often wondered who write all the great jokes that are passed around. Some of them are so well contrived that it's not possible for me to think they just evolved in the retelling. There's a kind of genius to some of them.

Marty, your comment "There's more where that came from" hints that you may know of at least one source.  Perhaps it's you yourself?

Rodney,

Marty gave a wonderful talk at the last Summer Seminar on Beauty and Cleverness in Mathematics that was half math, half comedy routine. He is also a very accomplished musician and I had great fun playing music with him at the last two seminars and when I lived in suburban New York about 5 miles from his home. I suspect that many of his jokes are home grown :-).

Jim, that's very interesting to me, since many years ago I myself created and performed an Objectivism-driven "philosophical magic act." (And in it, I touched upon mathematics. But only from the standpoint of epistemology.)

And then there is Robin Field, who performed a philosophical comedy/music act.

Anyway, I find it intriguing that no matter how successful a joke gets in terms of entering pop culture, I have never heard of anyone coming forward to brag, "I wrote that!"

     LOL!

A 'joke' about a joke which no one will ever know the content of. Very original. But then, MP always was.
