| | ...Your grandfather had a fig tree.
Four, actually; two white and two black. And when my grandfather passed in 1992, we took cuttings from all four and planted them at my sister's house. My nephews care for them now.
You eat Sunday dinner at 2:00. Yes, but I didn't know this was peculiar to Italians.
Christmas Eve . . . only fish.
Yep. Lotsa fried flounder, shrimp, spaghetti w/white clam sauce, et cetera...
Your mom's meatballs are the best. .
My meatballs are the best. Mom's run a close second.
You've been hit with a wooden spoon or had a shoe thrown at you
Nope. Never. Not once. But my mom did have a marble rolling pin that she'd occasionally use to emphasize a point. (and no, she never hit anyone with it)
Plastic on the furniture is normal.
Grandparents did the plastic furniture thing. Thankfully, that gene seems to have gone dormant since.
You know how to pronounce "manicotti" and "mozzarella."
Duh...
You fight over whether it's called "sauce" or "gravy."
Never. We call it "gravy" unless we're talking with a non-Italian person. Cuts down on long-winded explanations and strange looks.
You've called someone a "mamaluke."
Never. Citrulo, cafone and stronza, perhaps. But never 'mamaluke'.
And you understand "bada bing"
"Bada bing" isn't Italian.
;o)
