| | My attitude towards government lies, conspiracy theories, secret societies, etc., is that these sorts of things go on, regardless of whether or not you can prove it in a particular instance. Some people in the world are evil, and they get a kick out of controlling others. Some of those people are successful, and out of necessity they lie, conspire, and keep secrets from the public that they have duped into being followers. I always take what any government says with a grain of salt, but I don't get too involved in trying to get "the real story". I'm more concerned with living my life in a way which satisfies my sense of morality. Leaders may come and go, freedom may wax and wane, but at the end of the day it's your own actions that you're responsible for.
