| | Under eight years of George W. Bush, the defict reached levels never seen before. Then in the first three months under Obama the deficit quadrupled! ---------
"Barack Obama has fatally undermined our currency, our solvency, our financial stability and -- ultimately -- our economy, all to spend money that has had no economic effect!
Is Obama a failure? Not by his lights. His goal was never to stimulate the economy. His goal was to expand government spending, and he used the recession as an excuse to do so. And, by this standard, he is a raging success. With the stimulus spending, the government proportion of gross domestic product will rise from about 35 percent to about 40 percent, and with health care "reform" it will go soaring into the mid-40s, bringing us to parity with Germany en route to France! We all know that the current economic crisis was the trojan horse of hidden change. That nationalizing, federalizing and dogged pursuit of the twin holy grails of cradle to grave health-care and greening the economy were the real goals, whispering in the ear of the left, "Don't waste this crisis!"
So much change so rapidly, it makes the head spin. Audacious change, for sure. It has been distracting but now it is time to look ahead a bit. We all know what the results of his changes will be on the economy - not in detail, but in general. It will make things worse, but it is difficult to predict timing and it is near impossible to predict the reserve of human resiliency and ingenuity. That means that we don't know that we will see another collapse coming soon. We might get a recovery - even if it is only temporary. What then? It will frustrate President Obama and congress because it will take away the one thing letting them have their way - the crisis.
So what might Obama do to get back on the track he wants to be on? He can try to talk us into feeling like we are still in a crisis - he has used the word crisis more than I have in this little post to whip up a sense of panic. But that has worn a bit thin and might not do the trick. Would he create a new crisis... out of the economy? That was what I was thinking of.... then I began to wonder if he hasn't been working towards that end already. Are we being too kind to think that his destruction of our economy is an accident born of economic ignorance? I'm wondering if he isn't purposely trying to destroy Capitalism in order to usher in his brand of socialism.
The last crisis worked far better than they could have imagined. It would be foolish think that this bunch won't be even more efficient in using the next crisis, and that they will be eagerly waiting for it, and maybe nudging us into it. I'm coming to believe they want to destroy parts of the current structure - to make room for their new structure and to ride the interim crisis. What will the next crisis be?
