| | I don't think it's ever been a secret that Mark Steyn is religious. I know most of his fame in the U.S. as of late is due to regular spots on national christian-conservative talk radio. The lion's share of his efforts are geared to conservatism thankfully, much of which is in line with Objectivist thought. I enjoy his authoritative writing style, and the man has a flare for powerful quotes and sound bytes... some of which I occasionally see posted in these very forums.
The whole theism/nihilism false dichotomy is the one big sword the conservatives like to swing around anytime the history of religious war is brought up. You say 'Inquisition' and they'll retort 'Communism', and what is too bad is that the majority of atheist thinkers do not have an answer to this. Steyn is dead-on regarding the plight of the European 'rationalists', yet he has no business attributing American optimism to a healthy fear of God.
As the religious and the socialists continue to dance on either side of the same collectivist coin, one is left wondering how to convince any of them that there exists a truer path to the benefit of everyone. (Edited by Stephen Knoll on 12/16, 4:13pm)
