Question for all of you:  How many of you think that Rush Limbaugh is an Objective news source?

You capitalized 'Objective,' do you in fact mean 'Objectivist'?  If so, then Rush Limbaugh is most definitely NOT an Objectivist news source (although, I've heard that he admires aspects of Ayn Rand's ideas, mainly the rugged individualism and personal responsibility aspects that many conservatives identify with).  He's not really a journalist anyhow, he is a commentator.  His 'objectivity' is about the same as any other partisan hack, although it's been years since I last listened to one of his shows.

Truthfan: Rush Limbaugh occasionally has some very astute analyses that one doesn't get from any other source.

You sometimes just have to laugh at Rush but often enough he will hit you with an insight you haven't seen before. You have to respect him though, he's very intelligent and he dosen't split hairs. More importantly, he supports the war like us and he jumps on Bush about his spending just as much as we do.

Lightly...he jumps but he does so lightly.

I have much respect for Rush, he finds a lot of interesting news stories and always quotes his sources on his website.  He analyizes the news with a right-wing spin which is good for us most of the time but he doesn't try to hide his spin like CNN.  I would say he is about as valid a news source as most media outlets available today.

The only issues I have with him is when he starts on his conservative rants about Christianity, Jesus, the founding fathers, and how all that is a valid reason for capitalism.  For the most part he stays away from defending capitalism directly.

I like him, hes fun and until there is an Objectivist on the radio who is just as funny I will listen to him.

Eric, I think I share your assessment of Limbaugh.  I was staying at my parents' house over Thanksgiving and found myself flipping through the channels late night after everyone else was asleep.  On CSPAN, I came across a Rush Limbaugh speech at the Claremont Institute (a conservative think tank of sorts).  I was actually enjoying it at first, as he was giving a thoughtful critique of the welfare state, but then he went into this bit about why America is fundamentally great, and he more or less said that it's because the the ideas of our constitution are based on religious principles.  It was a bit frustrating, but it's like anything else: take the good, discard the bad.

He is not a source of objective news, nor is that his purpose. He is a disappointment intellectually. I listen to him about twenty minutes twice a month. His trashing of democrats is a rejuvenating emotional fuel.

Yeah that is kind of good to hear but I think the most respectable thing about him is that he isn't objective, doesn’t say he's objective, and never portrays himself as objective. He just says, "I'm a conservative Christian, this is what I believe, and this is why I believe it." I disagree with a lot of what he says obviously but he doesn't try to spin any story at all.

Unlike those on the left like Al Franken with his "Fair and Balanced view of the Right."

I am confused by your last line cutting Al Franken.  Can you elaborate?

uh, Franken is a damn socialist and he titled his last book, "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right"

He pretends to be objective while anyone who reads it or listens to him knows Bahgdad Bob was more objective then him.

My point is, Rush dosen't try to be objective when he's critizing the other side and that makes him more respectable.

Clarence, when Al Franken called his book "a fair and balanced look at the right" he's being satirical, i.e., making fun of Fox News' claim to fair and balanced news.

Obviously a book called "lies and the lying liars who tell them" is not pretending to be "balanced."

I happen to like that book. You can disagree with Franken's leftist views while admiring the way he catches people like Ann Coulter in lies.
